If Islam was never invented as a religion then what could have been a religion in Arabia since 600AD?

The Catholics would have taken over the Arab world. They nearly did too. A lot of Lebanese Arabs are Catholics. You could say that Islam was invented specifically to prevent the Catholics taking over the Arab world. The Arabs wanted a "holy book" monotheistic religion to rival Christianity, so this was their motivation for inventing Islamic nonsense.
