If Muslims believe the Jewish Temple wasnt on the Temple Mount then...?

why did Muslims originally pray towards Jerusalem instead of Mecca? Why was it referred to as the Noble Sanctuary? Aren't Muslims supposed to believe in the revelations/prophets of the Jews as well?
